“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”
- John Stuart Mill

Sure Mr Mill, “going to war” war is easy for us Hemingway types. Hell, I’ve gotten in fights for nothing less than a six pack and a bumped shoulder. It’s sending you sister or kids to get there limbs blown off that produces second thoughts on what is worth fighting for.
The best part of this quote is that the word “freedom” or “liberty” isn’t used once.

Also, Thank You Veterans. (this isn’t an after thought but didn’t belong with my other comment).
