Cherry Creek Sneak 2006 Results

This past Sunday (4/30/06) I participated in the 5 mile run at the Cherry Creek Sneak. Let me start by saying that I don’t consider myself a runner – rather just a washed up soccer player who tries to stay in shape.
So at the end of the race I felt pretty good. I had accomplished my main goal – which was not to walk any of it. My secondary goal, more of a hopeful goal, was to try and do slightly less than 8 minute miles. I know that I was on pace at the 3rd mile mark. I checked my watch and it was at 23 minutes and 40 seconds. At the 30 minute mark my stop-watch stopped! I must have somehow set it to only count up to 30 minutes. So now I was running blind – just trying to maintain my same pace.
I didn’t know what my official time was until I checked the results online. 42 minutes and 48 seconds – that’s 8:33 minute/mile. I was ok with that, it could have been better, but all-in-all it was fine. At least at first glance – then I saw it – six names up from mine – a 90 year old who finished 40 minutes, 26 seconds; that’s 8:05 minute/mile! I got smoked by a 90 year old! I quit – running sucks.

I was wondering how you did. Sounds pretty good . . . except for gramps a couple of slots ahead of ya.
Congratulations.

There was a time when this former Army officer might have been in shape to do something like that… but not even close now. Too much blogging!
